What is Test to Release?

Test to Release is a UK government scheme for travellers returning to England, who which to reduce their quarantine period from mandatory 10 days to an early release. In order to do this, they must successfully provide a Negative RT PCR Test taken on or after Day 5 of quarantine in England. The test can only be performed through an approved provider of the UK government Test to Release scheme, such as Olive Health & Travel Clinic.

*Please note that the Test to Release scheme is not currently recognised by Scotland and Wales. It is also not applicable to visitors who transit or arrive from these countries.

Step 4: Follow the guidance based on your test results

  • If your test result is negative you can stop self-isolating as soon as you receive your test result.
  • If your test result is positive, continue to self-isolate for another 10 days (Day 1 starts from the day you took the test, or from when you first had symptoms if that time period was earlier). Please note that people you are living/staying with, should also self-isolate for 10 days from the date you received your positive test result.
  • If the result of your test is inconclusive, please continue to self-isolate for the mandatory 10 days or you can take another test if you want to stop self-isolating early (you will have to pay for this test again).
  • If the result of your test is equivocal, you may have an early onset of the infection or residue from a recent past infection. If an early onset is suspected, we would strongly advise a retest in 24-48 hours and isolate as per usual guidelines.
